TalkNeest ("we", "us", "our") operates the TalkNeest mobile application and the website at talkneest.com (together, the "Service") — a social app for short videos ("TalkClips"), chats, friend requests and games. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Android app published on Google Play as com.talkneest.app and to the website.
By creating an account or using the Service you confirm that you have read this Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Service. You must be at least 18 years old to use it.
- We collect the account details you give us, the content you post or send, and the technical data the app needs to work.
- We use it to run the Service, keep it safe and show you a feed.
- We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers listed below, and where the law requires it.
- You can access, correct, export or delete your data — including deleting your whole account from inside the app.
- You can reach us any time at privacy@talkneest.com.
1. Who is responsible for your data
TalkNeest is the data controller for the Service. For any privacy question, request or complaint, write to privacy@talkneest.com (or support@talkneest.com for general support). We answer privacy requests within 30 days.
2. Data we collect
2.1 Data you give us
- Account: full name, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), date of birth, gender and country.
- Profile: username, bio, profile photo, cover photo, gallery photos, city, interests, and optional "about you" details such as work, education, hometown, relationship status, website link and, if you add one, a phone number.
- Content: the TalkClips you record or upload (video, added sound, cover frame, caption, filters, audience settings), posts, comments, reactions, chat messages, images and voice notes you send.
- Reports and moderation: reports you file or receive, and the reason selected, which we use to keep the community safe.
- Support: anything you send us by email or through the in-app support option.
2.2 Data collected automatically
- Device and technical data: device model, operating system and app version, a device identifier, IP address, language and time zone.
- Usage data: screens viewed, clips watched, features used, session times, in-app events, and crash or error logs.
- Approximate location: the country you select and the country inferred from your IP address, used for local pricing and legal compliance. We do not collect precise GPS location.
- Local storage on your device: small preferences and caches (theme, blocked list, downloaded clips, cached screens) so the app opens quickly and works on a weak connection.
2.3 Data we do not collect
We do not collect your contacts, calendar, SMS messages, precise GPS location, or the contents of other apps. We do not request permissions we do not need.
3. Why we use your data
| Purpose | Data used | Why it is allowed |
|---|---|---|
| Create and secure your account, sign you in, keep one active device | Name, email, password hash, device id | To perform our contract with you |
| Show your profile, feed, clips, comments and chats | Content, profile, interactions | To perform our contract with you |
| Recommend clips and rank the For You feed | Views, likes, interests, feedback you give | Our legitimate interest in a usable feed |
| Keep the community safe: reports, blocks, hiding reported content | Reports, blocks, moderation records | Legal obligation and our legitimate interest in safety |
| Support, bug fixing and abuse prevention | Logs, device data, correspondence | Our legitimate interest in a working, safe Service |
We do not sell personal data.
4. Who we share data with
- Service providers (processors) acting for us: cloud hosting and database providers, file and video storage/CDN, email delivery, push notification delivery, analytics and crash reporting.
- AI providers: to generate replies for AI chatbot accounts and to transcribe or synthesise voice notes, the content of that chat (and the audio) is sent to our AI providers — currently Google (Gemini API) and Groq — under their terms and, where such an option exists, without being used to train their public models. Chats with AI accounts are labelled in the app.
- Payments: payment providers process your purchases on our website and share a transaction reference and status with us — never your card or wallet credentials.
- Other users: your profile, posts, comments and clips are visible to the audience you choose. Private accounts are visible to friends only. Blocking hides you from that person both ways.
- Legal and safety: law-enforcement, courts or regulators, where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety and property of TalkNeest, our users or the public.
- Business transfer: if we are involved in a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
5. How we protect your data
- Passwords are stored as salted hashes and are never readable by us.
- Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
- Access tokens are short-lived and tied to one active device; signing in on a new device ends the older session.
- Two-step verification can be switched on in Settings › Privacy & security, after which a sign-in asks for a code sent to your email.
- Access to production data is limited to the staff who need it, and administrative actions are logged.
- No system is perfect: if a breach affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
6. How long we keep data
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | Until you delete the account, then wiped as described in section 8 |
| Posts, clips, comments and chats | Until you delete them, or until your account is deleted |
| Reports, blocks and moderation records | Up to 24 months, so repeat abuse can be identified |
| Server and security logs | Up to 12 months |
| Cached clips and screens on your phone | Until you clear the cache in Settings › Storage & data, or until the app evicts them |
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and copy: Settings › Storage & data › Download your data gives you one JSON file with your profile, posts, comments and chats.
- Correct: edit your name, username, bio, photos, link and phone number in Settings.
- Delete: delete individual posts, comments and messages, clear chats, or delete your whole account (section 8).
- Visibility: make your account private, choose who can see your posts, tag you, message you or comment, and hide your online status.
- Notifications: switch off each notification type, or mute everything for an hour, eight hours or a week.
- Withdraw consent / object: write to us — we will stop any processing that relies on consent, unless the law requires us to keep the data.
- Complain: you may complain to your local data-protection authority at any time.
8. Deleting your account and your data
Delete your account from the app:
- Open TalkNeest and sign in.
- Go to Settings (profile → settings).
- Under Account, tap Delete my account.
- Confirm. You are signed out on every device straight away.
Cannot sign in? Email privacy@talkneest.com from the address on the account (or tell us your username) with the subject "Delete my account", and we will delete it for you within 30 days. A step-by-step page is at talkneest.com/account-deletion.
What deletion removes:
- Your profile and everything personal on it: name, photos, bio, city, interests, links and phone number.
- Your email address is replaced with an internal placeholder and your username is released, so the account can no longer be found or signed in to.
- Your posts and clips stop being served and are marked deleted; your comments are removed from other people's posts.
- Every device and session is signed out, and your block list is cleared.
Deactivating instead (Settings › Account › Deactivate my account) hides you from search, discovery and other people's feeds without deleting anything — signing in again brings you back.
A few things survive a deletion: the messages other people still hold in their own chat history. Anything we keep is stored under the retention rules in section 6 and is no longer linked to an active account.
9. Children and child safety
TalkNeest is for adults only. It is not directed to children, and nobody under 18 may create an account or use the Service. Age is confirmed at sign-up and date of birth is part of the account. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a person under 18 holds an account, we delete the account and its data.
9.1 Our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE)
We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and for any content or behaviour that sexualises, grooms, exploits or endangers minors. The following is strictly prohibited on TalkNeest, in public content and in private chats:
- Any sexual or sexualised content involving a minor, including images, videos, text, voice notes and AI-generated content.
- Grooming, sexual solicitation, sextortion or any attempt to contact a minor for sexual purposes.
- Sharing, requesting, trading or linking to child sexual abuse material.
9.2 What we do about it
- Every user can report content and block other users from inside the app. Content reported by several different people is hidden automatically until it is reviewed.
- We review reports and remove content that breaks these standards. Accounts involved in child sexual abuse or exploitation are removed.
- Where the law requires it, or where a child may be at risk, we report such content and the accounts involved to the relevant law-enforcement and child-protection authorities, such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where applicable.
- We keep reports and moderation records for up to 24 months (see section 6) so repeat abuse can be identified.
9.3 How to report a concern
If you believe a minor is using the Service, or you see content or behaviour that endangers a child, use the report option in the app or write to safety@talkneest.com. We treat these reports as a priority. If a child is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first.
10. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on servers operated by our hosting providers, which may be located outside your country. Where data is transferred internationally we rely on the providers' contractual safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) and we keep the transfer to what the Service needs.
11. Cookies and local storage
- The website uses local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as your theme.
- The app stores preferences and caches on your device (see section 2.2) and lets you clear them in Settings › Storage & data.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy — for example when we add a feature that changes what we collect. The "Last updated" date at the top always shows the current version. Material changes are notified in the app or by email before they take effect, and continued use after that date means you accept the updated Policy. Earlier versions are available from us on request.
